Preheat oven to 350Β°. Grease a 9 x 9-inch or 9 x 13-inch pan. Sift sugar, baking soda and flour together.
Bring butter, cocoa and water to a boil. Mix boiled ingredients into dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, eggs and vanilla.
Mix again for about 2 minutes. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until done. Cook frosting while cake is baking.
