Plain Layer Cake
Plain Layer Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. butter, 1 c. sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2 eggs, separated and 2 c. cake flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Cream shortening with 3/4 cup sugar.
Add flavoring and egg yolks; cream again.
Sift and measure flour; add baking powder and salt and sift again.
Add dry ingredients and milk alternately to first mixture, adding about 1/3 at a time.
Fold in egg whites, beaten stiffly into which remaining 1/4 cup of sugar has been beaten.
Pour batter into lightly greased and floured pans (or pan).
Good plain or you can frost.
