American Beauty Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 oz. red food coloring, 3 tbsp. nestle quik, 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar and 2 eggs, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Mix food color with cocoa and let stand.
Cream shortening with sugar.
Add eggs and color mixture.
Beat very well.
Add buttermilk, cake flour, salt and vanilla.
Add vinegar and soda and beat by hand.
Pour into 2 greased and floured 8-inch pans.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 to 35 minutes.
Use a thread to cut each layer in half, making 4 layers.
