Line 2 baking sheets with waxed paper; set aside.
In a large bowl, combine butter, corn syrup, salt and extract.
Stir with a wooden spoon gradually working in powdered sugar.
When mixture is too stiff for a spoon, begin kneading as for bread dough.
When all the powdered sugar has been added, continue kneading until fondant is smooth.
Form into balls 3/4-inch in diameter and place on waxed paper trays.
Dip in tempered dipping chocolate or roll in nuts.
Press pecan half or candied cherry on each piece.
Makes 100 pieces.
