Pinwheel Onion Rolls

Cook onions in butter until golden; cool.
Add salt and cayenne.
Sift flour and baking powder.
Cut in shortening.
Add milk; mix only enough to dampen dry ingredients.
Roll into 12 x 8-inch rectangle.
Spread with onions.
Roll up as for jelly roll. Cut into eight 1-inch slices.
Put flat side down in greased pan (13 x 9 x 2-inch).
Mix egg and evaporated milk.
Pour over rolls. Bake in 400Β° oven for 25 minutes.
