Steamed Sponge Cakes
Steamed Sponge Cakes is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/3 c. plain flour, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 c. cornmeal, 3/8 c. granulated sugar and 3 to 4 oz. water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Bring water to a boil.
Add sugar and cook until it dissolves. Remove mixture to cool for later use.
Sieve plain flour and baking powder into a mixing bowl.
Slowly blend in syrup and stir well to form a batter.
Add cornmeal and mix well.
Let mixture sit awhile. Pour the above cornmeal batter into small greased bowls, 3/4 full. Arrange them on a steamer.
Steam them for 20 to 30 minutes until done.
