Holiday Coffee Cake

Combine scalded milk, salt, sugar and shortening.
Mix yeast with half the flour.
Add lukewarm scalded milk mixture.
Beat well.
Let rise until very light.
Add egg and remaining flour. Mix well.
Let rise.
Roll dough into a rectangle on lightly floured board.
Mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
Brush with melted butter; spread with cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Roll up like jelly roll.
Form into a ring on greased baking sheet.
Pinch ends together to fasten.
Using large scissors, cut ring around edge at 2-inch intervals, leaving inner edge in tact.
Turn each to lie flat on the pan.
Let rise.
