In a large mixer bowl, beat butter and shortening until butter is softened.

Add sugar and beat until fluffy.

Add egg, milk and vanilla and beat well.

Add flour mixture and beat until well mixed.

Divide dough in half.

Cover and chill at least 3 hours.

Roll dough 1/8-inch thick.

Cut with cookie cutters.

Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in a 375Β° oven for 7 to 8 minutes or until done. Remove and cool.

If desired, you may ice the cookies.
