Grandma Knatsous' Doughnuts

In a bowl, mix together egg, sugar, butter, sour milk or buttermilk and vanilla.
Add salt, nutmeg, soda, baking powder and flour.
Stir well. Roll out onto floured board to about 1/2-inch thick.
Cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in hot lard, turning as soon as they rise to surface. Turn often until done.
Makes 30 to 36 doughnuts.
