Connie's Easy French Bread
Connie'S Easy French Bread is an moderately easy French baked good you can prepare in about 1 hour 26 minutes. Made with . yeast, c. warm water, c. rather hot water, . sugar and . shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Put yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water and mix.
Add sugar, salt, shortening and hot water.
Stir in the flour, one cup at a time, and mix after each cup.
After all the flour is added, let dough set for 15 minutes, then stir again and let set again for 15 minutes.
Do this 4 times (takes 1 hour).
Let dough set, covered, until it doubles.
Form into 1 loaf and put on floured baking sheet.
Brush the top with cold water and make 5 slashes diagonally in top of loaf with sharp knife.
Let loaf rise for 30 minutes and bake in a 350Β° oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
