Navajo Fried Bread
Navajo Fried Bread is an easy dinner. Made with 2 c. flour, 1 tbsp. baking powder, salt to taste (if desired) and approximately 1 to 2 c. warm water with powdered milk or whole milk mixed in, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Mix dry ingredients.
Make well in middle.
Slowly add liquid and mix in from center.
Dough should be slightly sticky.
Let set; wait 1 hour.
Take small ball; roll or pat out very thin.
Drop in smoking Crisco or oil.
(Make sure it's hot.)
Turn when golden brown.
Drain on paper.
Serve warm or keep hot in warm oven. Serve with chopped lettuce, onion, tomatoes, shredded cheese and taco sauce.
