Put half of onions in crock-pot, then add meat, cloves, water and remaining onions.
Cover and cook overnight or 8 to 12 hours on low.
Remove bone and fat from meat; drain.
Put meat back into crock-pot.
Add chopped onion and barbecue sauce.
Cover and cook additional 1 to 3 hours on high or 4 to 8 hours on low, stirring 2 or 3 times.
Serve on large buns.
