Sand Tarts(Penna. German for Christmas)
Sand Tarts(Penna. German For Christmas) is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. butter, 2 1/2 c. sugar, 2 eggs, well beaten, 4 c. sifted flour and 1 egg white, slightly beaten, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Cream butter until softened.
Add sugar gradually, creaming until fluffy.
Add eggs in thirds, beating well after each addition.
Add the flour in fourths, mixing until blended after each addition.
Chill dough overnight.
Using a small amount of dough at a time, roll out to 1/16 inch thick, on lightly floured surface and cut into small 2 inch rounds or small animal shapes, trees, stars, Christmas or holiday symbols.
Brush with beaten egg white, sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon and press a pecan piece onto center of each cookie.
Transfer to cookie sheets. Bake at 350Β° about 9 minutes.
Keep in airtight containers.
Yields about 7 dozen small cookies.
