French Onion Soup
French Onion Soup is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 5 c. onions, sliced thin, 3 tbsp. butter, 1/4 tsp. black pepper, 1 tbsp. flour and 3 (10 oz.) beef broth, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Melt butter in 4-quart pan.
Add onions and pepper.
Saute until golden brown.
Sprinkle flour and stir until absorbed into onions.
Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly with wooden spoon. Remove from heat.
Gradually add broth, stirring constantly.
Add water and bay leaf.
Return to heat; bring to boil, stirring constantly.
Reduce heat to low; cook uncovered 30 to 40 minutes. Discard bay leaf.
