Traditional Southern Fried Okra
Traditional Southern Fried Okra is an easy dinner. Made with 1/4 c corn meal, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, 6 c (1/2 inch thick) sliced okra and 1/2 c vegetable oil, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Combine cornmeal, salt and pepper in plastic bag.
Add okra and shake well to blend and coat 1 cup of okra at at time to cornmeal mix.
Put 1/4 cup oil into a cast iron frying pan and heat until hot.
Add coated okra a little at a time until brown.
Yield about 10 servings.
(Add additional oil as needed.)
